A client from Palmerton, PA, was looking to improve the finish of the paint on his collectible 1993 Mustang Cobra. After evaluating the paint on the car, we determined we could help him get the paint dialed in and protected. Amazingly, the car has less than 10,000 original miles on it. The car most likely spent its life in a garage and out of the weather. Most people would ask what the paint could possibly need and why would it need the protection of a ceramic coating. Unfortunately, even in a garage and or under a cover, the paint on a car experiences wear and has to be cared for.
This car in particular had some checking in the paint on the hood and roof, and had micro scratches and light swirls from the abrasion of washing, car covers and anything else that might have rubbed against the paint surface. The current owner is meticulous about maintaining the appearance of the car and wanted to do anything he could to preserve the original finish.
We performed a two-step compound and polishing of the entire vehicle. This removed the micro scratches and improved the reflectivity of the finish. By improving the reflectivity, we reduced the visibility of the checking in the paint under normal light conditions. This process requires high-quality products, high-quality tools and a skilled technician to achieve the best results with the lowest risk of damaging the paint finish.
In this case, the Ceramic Pro Coating will protect the car from future micro-scratching, bird droppings or any other environmental impact the car may be exposed to while being driven occasionally and while garaged. We accomplished this with layers of Ceramic Pro 9H. This particular coating is approximately two times as hard as the clear coat and provides a sacrificial layer protecting the paint and adding to the gloss of the paint. When topped with Ceramic Pro “Top Coat,” the finish is ultra-hydrophobic and easy to keep clean with waterless washes, touchless washes and conventional hand washes.
